"James "JT" Taylor was born August 16, 1953 in New Jersey.
James “JT” Taylor had a fall back job as he began his career. Before his rise to fame, Taylor was a schoolteacher and amateur nightclub singer. When he was 13 years old, he and his friends started their own band. He joined Kool & The Gang in 1978 and became the band's lead singer in 1979.
James “JT” Taylor was the lead singer for Kool & the Gang from 1979 to 1988,. James "J.T." Taylor presided over the group's commercial — if not artistic — peak of the early to mid-'80s, later moving on to a solo career. Born August 16, 1953, "J.T." Taylor joined Kool & the Gang at a point when the pioneering funk band was beginning to lose steam amidst the rise of disco. Five years after their last hit, the group enlisted both producer Eumir Deodato and "J.T." Taylor and re-entered the Top Ten in 1979 with the decidedly disco-slanted "Ladies Night," a track which topped the R&B charts. The following year, Kool & the Gang delivered its first number one hit on the pop charts, "Celebration." Although Top Ten placements were frequent from 1982 through 1987, "J.T." Taylor left the band for a solo career in 1988, thanks in large part to the success. (One monument to his impact with Kool & the Gang is that the group recruited three people to replace him — Skip Martin, Gary Brown, and Odeen Mays.)

James “JT” Taylor had instant success as a solo artist. After signing to Epic Records in 1988, James "J.T." Taylor found a hit on his first at-bat: a duet with Regina Belle called "All I Want Is Forever." The theme song to the Gregory Hines film Tap, it reached number two on the R&B charts, but was unable to cross over to the pop charts. "J.T." Taylor recorded three albums for MCA during the early '90s, failing to trump the success of "All I Want Is Forever," though "Long Hot Summer Night" made it to the R&B Top 20 in 1991. After a lengthy hiatus, "J.T." Taylor resurfaced in mid-2000 with Brand New Me."

Lakecia Is also currently in the studio with her band "Soul Squad" and will be releasing her first ALBUM in SPRING 2009.
